Interlude I and II (Umbilical and Floral Motifs) is a pair of marble wall pieces that delicately intertwine personal and natural elements. In these works, Aksel Ree carves intricate, Art Nouveau-inspired floral motifs that surround the scar of a belly button, symbolizing both the origins of life and the severed connection to the past. The combination of the umbilical scar and floral imagery evokes themes of birth, nourishment, and growth, while also suggesting fragility and loss. Through these pieces, Ree reflects on the cycles of life and regeneration, connecting personal history with broader themes of creation and transformation.
